Under right to survival of children, the following activities are done:
Activation of Government Health Institutions
Government health institutions like community health centres (CHCs), primary health centres (PHCs), sub-centres and urban health posts in the entire operational area have been gradually upgraded and the system has now become functional.
Activation of Panchayat Health and Sanitation Committees
All panchayat members have been sensitised and made aware regarding child survival in the operational area. They are now actively participating in monitoring of government health and family welfare services.
Activation of ICDS Centres
All over the operational area, ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) centres are being activated. Now they are providing nutritious food to children and other services they have.
Activation of Public Distribution System
Advocacy for adequate ration cards to appropriate families and cancellation of fake ration cards is being done. PDS (Public Distribution System) shop owners have been sensitised to distribute food grains regularly on fixed prices.
Nearly 80 per cent children in the operational area are being immunised and attempts are going on to cover 100 per cent children by immunisation.
Nearly 90 per cent children in the age group 0-1 years and 40 per cent in the age group 1-5 years, particularly those belonging to Scheduled Castes and oppressed class are being registered. These group have acquired dignity in the operational area.
Monitoring of IMR, CMR and MMR
Database pertaining to IMR, CMR and MMR has been prepared and through this database the process of liasoning is underway to improve the situation.
Training to Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs)
Over 1,000 TBAs from as many villages in Varanasi district and 1,360 TBAs from as many villages in Chandauli district have been trained to ensure identification of high risk cases, preference in institutional delivery, safe delivery in homes with five cleans and post-natal care (PNC).
Capacity Building of Women PRI Representatives on RCH and Child Rights
A total of 840 gram pradhans, block development committee members, gram panchayat members and members from health and sanitation committees have been oriented on RCH issues.
Child survival activities cover 118 villages in 52 gram sabhas of Pindara development block in Varanasi district, 54 villages in Aurai and Bhadohi development blocks in Sant Ravidas Nagar district and 15 villages of Jalalpur block of Jaunpur district.
