Dr. Shambhunath Singh Research Foundation - SRF

डॉ. शम्भुनाथ सिंह रिसर्च फाउण्डेशन - एस.आर.एफ.

Project Summary:

SRF is operational in 34 villages of Aurai blocks covering about 6,000 families and a population of around 50,000 people. The SRF project area is 48 km from the Varanasi. The project area is well known for its internationally popular carpet industry. The child population, between the age group 0-14 is 6,037, while the adult (female and male) population is 1420226.  There are in total 1483 Anganwadi (AWC) in the district. The nutritious food served under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and the mid-day meal schemes is not properly functioning in the area. Anganwadi centers are either not functioning properly or functioning for the name sake in the district. Even Anganwadi workers do not come regularly at their respective Anganwadi centers. Most of the Anganwadi centers have no prescribed infrastructure and facilities for children in the district so children will not even wish to play, let alone study in the Anganwadi center. The major problem which was to be highlighted was Infant and under 5 mortality rate and to improve their nutritional status. To sort out these problems, SRF is working in 34 communities and facilitating early child hood care & development program to ensure that all children were receiving child care and developing in health environment. To achieve this goal SRF has conducted orientation and training program to ICDS sahayika, mini AWW and fathers for the clarity about their roles and responsibility.  So that children grows in a healthy environment both in home and AWC with the help of their parents & AWW. In this financial year SRF is succeeded in bringing positive change in the attitude of the male and AWW sahayika.

Major Achievements:
  1. Male involvement in pre and post natal care was very poor in rural community and for ensuring this involvement we have conducted a orientation program for the fathers of 10 communities i.e. 200 fathers to promote their roles and responsibility towards their partner and children. After 6 months when the participated fathers were followed it was found that out of 200 fathers 160 were giving full support to their wife in both i.e.
  2. Generally it is seen that in absence of AWW, ICDS sahayika & mini AWW are neither able to perform their role properly nor deal with children in a proper manner. That’s why SRF provide training to 66 ICDS Sahayika and Mini AWW to build their capacity so that they can deal properly with children in absence of AWW. After the training it was noted that there is a positive change in their attitude.
