Project Summary:

SRF is operational in 34 villages of Aurai blocks covering about 6,000 families and a population of above 50,000 people. The SRF project area is 48 km from the Varanasi. The project area is well known for its internationally popular carpet industry. The serious concerns of the area are problems related to laborers and their families. The population of the District Bhadohi is about 1.3 million, with eight persons as an average size of the household. A significant percentage of scheduled caste population (22% of the district population) lives in the district. Only 62.4% of the total population is literate. Literacy Rate of male is (42.6%) and Female Literacy Rate (19.8 %). Total No. of Schools: - Primary (853), Junior High School (458), High School (100), Graduate (5), Post Graduate (1), The area has only 502 govt. schools.  In this district, the enrollment level and quality of education was very poor due to the unawareness of parents, poor infrastructure in schools, unavailability of teachers, existence of corporal punishment, poor school management committees. For this, the SRF has taken the initiative and started working with the 39 school of 34 communities for the enrolment of all the children by creating awareness about free and compulsory education up to class 8th standard and ensuring the quality of education.  

Major Achievements:
  1. The participation and capacity of participating of children in schools and classes has been strengthened through the quarterly meeting of BAL MANTRIMANDAL in 39 schools. Now, children were actively participating in all the activities, problem and other issues related to them.
  2. Selected SMC members who were oriented about their roles and responsibilities were their performing best in implementation of any plan for the improvement of education system.
  3. Now, the teachers were giving special attention to the children with special needs and deals with them separately. This change is due to the training of teachers on community based rehabilitation and better attention on special children.
  4. Eight school were declared violence free
