Gender Sensitisation and Violence against Women
Violence against women is manifested in many forms and at many places. In homes, educational institutions and work place, women and girls suffer from domestic, physical, mental and sexual violence.
SRF is fighting violence against women through a number of strategic interventions. These include trauma treatment, family counselling, medical and legal support. Functional and legal literacy is being imparted in rural and urban areas of Varanasi and Bhadohi districts with support from the National Commission for Women and the National Literacy Mission. Thousands of women have been trained so far. In a few training member of the National Commission for Women Baby Rani Maurya also participated.
The organisation has extended assistance to scores of women through Women Help Cell and Women Helpline constituted by Varanasi police. These have been formed on the directives of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The organisation is an active part of counselling/mediation centre at the family court.
Outreach activities have been organised for sensitising students studying in schools and colleges.
To tackle instances of violence against women at workplace, a sexual exploitation prevention committee has been constituted in SRF as per decision of Supreme Court in Vishakha case. The senior worker of the organisation, Roli Singh, has been nominated as convenor of this committee.
